Act 08The Confession From Me To You

Chapter 177

Ragnarök.

The declaration breaks something inside me. Not collapse. Not defeat. Just the dissolution of chains I'd been carrying so long I'd forgotten they were there. Restrictions I'd placed on myself, limitations I'd accepted as necessary, boundaries I'd drawn around what I was willing to become.

Fire and ice. My grandparents. The abilities they passed down through bloodline, through training, through the simple fact of being their grandson. I'd watched them wield them with precision that made elements look like extensions of will rather than separate forces.

And I'd refused to use them. Because using them meant accepting inheritance from someone I'd watched die. Meant wielding power that came from loss. Meant becoming the thing that reminded me she was gone.

But Johann's trapped inside his own body, and I'm watching my best friend fight an ancient consciousness while I hold back abilities that might actually help. That's more full of shit than anything he could possibly be doing.

My obsidian dissolves. The frost in my chest, the damage from Vazroth's cold fire, the accumulated hurt from three weeks of grief and three hours of impossible combat, all of it fades into background noise as I stop resisting what I've always been able to do.

Fire erupts from my right hand. Not copied. Not borrowed. Mine. Inherited from Nilah through blood and training and the simple reality that some gifts don't die with their givers.

Ice forms around my left. Cold that burns, frost that cuts, temperature manipulation that grandfather used to create barriers and weapons and precise applications of thermal shock.

And between them, pulling from both, channeling through obsidian that knows how to shape and contain and direct, something new manifests.

The extraction begins in my chest. Not painful. Just present. Like my soul is reaching outward, testing the boundaries of flesh, understanding that consciousness isn't limited to the meat it occupies. I've never done this before. Never tried. Never wanted to.

But Nilah taught me the theory in our final training sessions, back when she knew time was running out and needed to pass down everything she could.

Souls can be touched, Alexander. Extracted. Manipulated. It's dangerous, it's difficult, and it requires perfect balance between control and will. Will to loosen the bonds, control to preserve the essence, purpose to shape the extraction.

I'd nodded, absorbed the information, promptly decided never to use it. Because touching souls felt wrong. Felt like crossing lines that shouldn't be crossed. Felt like becoming something other than the disciplined fighter I'd spent years crafting myself into.

But discipline is just another word for limitation when your friend is dying. The fire and ice spiral around my obsidian core, creating temperature gradients that shouldn't exist in proximity. My hands move through patterns Nilah showed me once, just once, trusting me to remember if I ever needed them.

And I'm calling it forth now. Not extraction in the clinical sense. Not removal or manipulation or any of the gentle applications she'd described. Something harder. Something desperate. Something that matches the moment we're trapped in.

ALX: Soul Extraction, Ragnarök.

The words feel right. Not borrowed. Not inherited. Just what this technique becomes when filtered through my understanding, my desperation, my refusal to watch Johann stay trapped. My soul extends. Reaches past flesh. Touches the boundary where Vazroth's consciousness occupies Johann's body, and I'm not trying to extract Johann or remove Vazroth.

I'm just proving that souls can be reached. That consciousness isn't absolute. That ancient control can be challenged by someone willing to risk everything making contact. The temperature around me drops and rises simultaneously. Fire and ice creating zone of impossible contradiction. Obsidian forming framework that channels both, that gives shape to extraction that has no physical form.

And I reach toward Johann. Not with hands. With will. With whatever part of me exists beyond flesh. With the determination that's kept me standing when I should have stayed crushed. Vazroth notices. His attention shifts from casual dominance to actual concern.

VTH: What are you- It can't be.

But I'm already making contact. Soul touching the boundary where Johann's consciousness presses against Vazroth's control. Not extracting. Not removing. Just making connection. Proving it's possible. Showing Johann that someone reached him in ways that transcend the physical.

VTH: You're a descendant of both..?!

The fire burns hotter. The ice cuts deeper. The obsidian framework holds everything together while I maintain contact that should be impossible. And I speak directly to whatever part of Johann is still fighting.

ALX: I'm here. I'm reaching. I'm proving you can be touched.

My voice doesn't use sound. Doesn't use air. Just exists in the space where souls overlap, where consciousness bleeds between bodies, where determination becomes force that physics can't measure.

ALX: So stop being full of shit and meet me halfway.

The others are moving around me. Creating space. Defending my position while I do something none of them fully understand. Astra's starlight. Ivy's poison. Lisa's thorns. Noel's barriers. Maeve's temporal manipulation. All of them buying me seconds to maintain a power that costs everything. One soul at a time.
